...Conductor Antonino Fogliani leads a taut, exciting performance that holds together even in rambunctious moments, with Maria's tenderness underscored nicely in her solo scenes...This is highly recommended.

AA.VV., Gaetano Donizetti. Maria Stuarda

Gaetano Donizetti. Maria Stuarda /Antonino Fogliani. Teatro alla Scala

Mondadori Electa, 2009

The fifth stage of the VOX IMAGO project concerns Gaetano Donizetti (1797-1848) and Maria Stuarda (Mary Queen of Scots), an opera based on the dramatic conflict of power and love between two queens who reigned in a dark age. As in previous publications, the box contains a book, a DVD and three CDs, allowing us to enter into the heart of the melodrama, and enhances the music of the opera through film and exclusive interviews.
The well-known musicologist Philip Gosset has written the notes to the opera, which was performed at La Scala as part of the 2007-2008 opera season. An inspiring performance directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi, under the strict baton of conductor Antonino Fogliani.
